The Chronicle of Mt. Juliet has done a story about MJM's Elementary students helping to raise money for a Montessori school in Uganda.
MJM's Toddler teacher, Sheri Troilo, helped the Victoria Montessori School in Uganda by bringing donated materials and training the teachers. The elementary students at MJM decided they could help out too and have been raising money to send to the school.

We are currently enrolling students between the ages of 2.5 and 6 years old to join us for our Summer Program! This program will run as a typical Montessori day, with the traditional materials on the shelves for students to receive lessons on. There will also be extra outdoor time, playing in water and gardening during the beautiful summer weather. We have two wonderful teachers teaching this summer. Please let us know when you would like to visit the school and meet the teachers!
And don't forget, we are still accepting applications for all ages (18 months to 10 years old) for the regular school year! We look forward to hearing from you! Posted Monday, May 2, 2011 4:06 pm CDT

As we move into March, we are getting into a few different things. The children have been interested in the stars so we have been reading some books about constellations. We have constellation classified cards on the shelf to learn the names of the most common constellations. We have also been making our own constellations by doing a pin-punching work where the children draw their own constellation, put holes in the paper as their stars and then go into the dark bathroom and use a flashlight to shine the constellation on the wall. They have really enjoyed this and you will see a few of those come home next week as we go through our folders again! The children have also made their own constellations using a white crayon on white paper, and then used water colors to paint over the drawing.
We are just getting into learning a little about Ireland (with St. Patrick's Day coming up). I don't usually get too much into the day of St. Patrick's Day as there is a lot of fantasy involved with it (like leprechauns!) but we are going to learn about Ireland and about shamrocks (a symbol of Ireland). We have an artwork on the shelf to make a "Shamrock Man."
The biggest part of the curriculum during this time is Community Helpers. A parent invited a guest into the classroom to teach us about stranger danger! The kids loved it for so many reasons. They learned what to do if a stranger approaches them (which was called a "don't know"), what to do if someone is at the door and mom/dad is not around, etc. We are continuing to learn about who in the community can help us when we need it. We read books about EMTs, dentists, vets, doctors, librarians, nurses, teachers, police officers and firefighters. We also had the Wilson Fire Department visit and bring their fire truck and ambulance! We hope that you have found most of the information that you are looking for about our school on the school's website. This blog is intended to give you some more information about what is actually happening in the classroom.
The history of MJM started in 2007, when Austin Presler (Head of School) and her family were moving from Bellevue to Mt. Juliet. Her children were enrolled in a wonderful Montessori school on that side of town, and when they knew they were moving to Mt. Juliet, they began researching Montessori schools in the area. She quickly learned that none existed and decided to start her own.
That year, we started MJM with 8 students in a Primary classroom (2.5-5 years old), 4 of which were staff kids! By the end of that school year, we had grown to having about 20 children enrolled. We then expanded the next year in order to house an elementary classroom as well. We have continued to grow throughout the past few years, as well as expand our space. This year we have at least 60 students enrolled, ages 2.5-10. We are looking to expand yet again and start including the toddler ages, starting at 18 months. Posted Friday, April 1, 2011 5:20 pm CDT
